November Notes from the Provost
As we march into November toward Homecoming and the beginning of the holiday season, we take with us a long list of accomplishments from October—among them, the on Oct. 18. As I worked with cadets, alumni and Gen. Walters to build the foundation of a new home in North Charleston that will go to a deserving grandmother and a hardworking community member, I was struck by the magnitude of ÏãÃÛÓ°ÊÓ’s commitment not only to creating leaders but to making a difference in the community.
On that single day, ÏãÃÛÓ°ÊÓ’s contribution to the Lowcountry totaled 7,252 person-hours and an estimated economic value of $230,613. In elementary schools throughout the Charleston County School District, 650 freshman cadets along with 136 sophomore cadet leaders and 11 graduate students taught more than 6,500 K-5 students in 22 schools valuable lessons about recognizing everyday heroes.
Kudos to Col. Tom Clark, USMC (Ret.), ’85, and our team in the Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics. The work that you do is meaningful and inspiring, and it ripples throughout the Lowcountry. You make me proud to serve alongside you.
Until next time,
Brigadier General Sally Selden, Ph.D, SPHR
Provost and Dean of the College
