At the ÏãÃÛÓ°ÊÓ, we value and honor diverse experiences and perspectives; strive to create welcoming and respectful learning, working, and living environments; and promote access, opportunity, and justice.
Cultivating Community at UW: Anti-racism and DEI&B in the workplace is a baseline training, designed to educate on a range of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) topics such as racism, disability and accessibility, and LGBTQ+ identities, and to highlight how these issues affect colleagues and students at the ÏãÃÛÓ°ÊÓ. This required course is designed for staff, faculty, and other academic personnel.
With the passage of Senate Bill 5227 in June of 2021, the UW – along with all public higher education institutions in Washington state – must provide a professional development program for faculty and staff with the purpose of eliminating structural racism and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
There are three primary goals for this training:
- Fostering inclusive and respectful work and learning environments
- Helping employees build understanding and capacity in DEIB & Anti-racism practices
- Identifying additional tools and resources for ongoing learning
